THE LAW OF THE FULCRUM – Axioms and Theorems of a System of
Neutral Harmony
PART III. CONSEQUENCES
Lesson 20. Consequences for Human Self-Cultivation.
Lesson 20. Consequences for Human Self-Cultivation.
In
the previous lessons, we mainly answered the question:
•
How does the Law of the Fulcrum affect external systems?
•
Medicine.
•
Education.
•
Governance.
•
…
In
Lesson 20, a very clear shift occurs:
Human beings are no longer merely users of the Law of the
Fulcrum; rather, each human being is themselves a Fulcrum System.
If
the previous lessons answered the question: “How does the Law of the Fulcrum
help us change the world?”, then Lesson 20 answers a deeper question:
“How does the Law of the Fulcrum help human beings change
themselves?”
For
every sustainable social transformation ultimately begins with the
transformation of each individual.
Ordinarily,
when people speak of self-cultivation, they think of:
•
refining morality,
•
correcting one’s character,
•
restraining oneself,
•
living a better life.
But
under the perspective of the Law of the Fulcrum, we can redefine it as follows:
Self-cultivation is
the continuous process of recalibrating the inner Fulcrum so that the entire
human system self-adjusts toward Neutral Harmony and development.
Under
the perspective of the Law of the Fulcrum, self-cultivation is the continuous
process of recalibrating the inner Fulcrum so that the entire human system
self-adjusts toward Neutral Harmony and development. This shows that the Law of
the Fulcrum is not only a principle of governance or science, but also a
principle of human maturation.
This
definition has a very great advantage.
It
frees “self-cultivation” from the dogmatic or moralistic coloring of
exhortation.
It
becomes a law of operation of living systems.
Just
as in Lesson 16 we said:
The body heals itself.
So
in Lesson 20 we can say:
Personality also has the capacity for self-perfection.
The
only condition is:
The inner Fulcrum must be correct.
Human
beings do not mature because they are forced to change. Human beings mature
when the inner Fulcrum is awakened.
An
external Fulcrum only has value when it awakens the inner Fulcrum.
Thus:
•
Medicine: → The body self-regulates.
•
Education: → The learner self-develops.
•
Governance: → The organization self-operates.
•
Self-cultivation: → Human beings self-perfect.
These
are in fact different expressions of the same Law of the Fulcrum.
The
highest Fulcrum of a human life does not lie outside, but lies within the
person themselves.
From
this we can draw a conclusion:
A
person may lose money.
May
lose status.
May
lose power.
May
even lose health.
But when the inner Fulcrum remains, they still retain the
capacity to rebuild their life.
This
is a very natural consequence of the entire theoretical system we have built,
and at the same time it creates a beautiful bridge to deeper dimensions of
consciousness and the spiritual realm.
We
should not write about “self-cultivation” merely in the traditional sense, but
should turn it into “a theory of human self-perfection under the perspective of
the Law of the Fulcrum.”
If
Lesson 17 affirmed:
The leader is the Fulcrum of the organization.
Then
Lesson 20 can affirm at a higher level:
Each
human being is the leader of their own life, and the inner Fulcrum is the
foundation of all maturation. If the leader is the Fulcrum of an organization,
then each human being is the Fulcrum of a “living system” called their own
life. The quality of life depends not only on circumstances, but first and
foremost on the quality of the inner Fulcrum that governs the entire system. “A
human being is the highest Fulcrum of themselves.”
I. SELF-CULTIVATION UNDER THE
PERSPECTIVE OF THE LAW OF THE FULCRUM
If
every system has a Fulcrum that determines the direction of its operation, then
human beings are no exception. A human being is not merely a biological body or
a social individual, but a living system composed of many interacting
components such as cognition, emotion, will, behavior, and relationships. These
components do not exist in isolation but constantly interact with one another,
forming a unified whole.
In
such a system, every thought, emotion, and action needs a directional center.
The Law of the Fulcrum shows that it is precisely this directional center that
determines the quality of operation of the entire system. When the inner
Fulcrum is correct, the internal elements of a person tend to self-adjust,
self-balance, and move together toward development. Conversely, when the
Fulcrum is misaligned, imbalance gradually spreads from cognition to emotion,
from emotion to behavior, and from behavior creates consequences in life.
Therefore,
under the perspective of the Law of the Fulcrum, self-cultivation should not be
understood merely as correcting external manifestations or trying to restrain
bad habits. Those manifestations are only the results of a deeper process of
operation within the person. To change results sustainably, one must begin by
recalibrating the inner Fulcrum itself – the place that directs the entire
system.
In
other words, self-cultivation is not a struggle between “the good” and “the
bad” within each person, but the process of gradually establishing a correct
Fulcrum so that every aspect of the inner life can self-adjust according to the
law of Neutral Harmony. When the Fulcrum is placed in the right position,
maturation is no longer the result of coercion, but becomes the natural result
of a system operating according to correct law.
That
is also why the Law of the Fulcrum opens a new way of looking at
self-cultivation. Instead of focusing only on correcting individual behaviors
one by one, it directs people toward building the foundation that controls the
entire system. When that foundation is solid, thinking becomes clearer,
emotions become more stable, actions become more upright, and character is
gradually perfected over time. Self-cultivation, therefore, is no longer a
moral exhortation, but becomes a law of human development itself.
“…Self-cultivation
is not a struggle between ‘the good’ and ‘the bad’ within each person, but the
process of gradually establishing a correct Fulcrum so that every aspect of the
inner life can self-adjust according to the law of Neutral Harmony.”
This
perspective also helps us understand more deeply the spirit of many Eastern
traditions of cultivation. In Buddhism there is the saying: “To cultivate is to
correct.” Cultivation first of all is not aimed at changing others but at
correcting oneself. The image of each person as a “mobile temple” carries a
very profound meaning: what needs to be cared for and preserved every day first
of all is one’s own inner life. Only when one knows how to “sweep clean” the
deviations within oneself does a person have enough clarity and peace to
radiate positive values to family and community.
Under
the perspective of the Law of the Fulcrum, “sweeping the temple” is not merely
correcting individual behaviors one by one, but is precisely the continuous
process of recalibrating the inner Fulcrum. When the Fulcrum is placed
correctly, cognition, emotion, and action will gradually self-adjust; thus
“cultivation” is no longer forced effort, but becomes the natural maturation of
the entire human system.
•
Dust clinging to the temple floor is not the essence of the
temple.
•
Mistakes, ambition, or anger are not necessarily the
essence of a human being.
What
needs to be done is not to demolish the temple in order to rebuild it, but to
patiently sweep away the layer of dust that covers it.
Under
the perspective of the Law of the Fulcrum, this can be expressed in a very
concise sentence:
Self-cultivation is
not the creation of a new person, but the removal of what misaligns the Fulcrum
so that the true person can be revealed.
If
self-cultivation is the recalibration of the inner Fulcrum, then what has
caused that Fulcrum to become misaligned?
II. EVERY HUMAN CRISIS BEGINS FROM A
MISALIGNED FULCRUM
If
Axiom 3 of the Law of the Fulcrum affirms that every imbalance of a system
begins from a misaligned Fulcrum, then that principle is also true for human
beings themselves. Crises in life do not appear by chance, nor are they
entirely created by external circumstances. In many cases, circumstances only
reveal a deviation that has already formed earlier in the inner life.
When
the inner Fulcrum is no longer placed upon correct values, cognition gradually
loses direction. From misaligned cognition arise unbalanced emotions;
unbalanced emotions lead to unwise behavior; and those behaviors in turn create
undesired results. This chain of movement not only harms the individual but
also spreads to family, community, and society.
Therefore,
greed, anger, selfishness, arrogance, or despair should not be viewed merely as
isolated “moral faults.” They can be understood as different manifestations of
an inner system that is out of balance because the Fulcrum has shifted away
from foundational values. If one only focuses on handling each manifestation
without recalibrating the Fulcrum, the old problems easily reappear in new
forms.
This
also explains why many people, even after changing their living environment,
job, or relationships, still repeat similar failures. When the inner Fulcrum
has not changed, the system continues to operate along the old trajectory and
continues to produce familiar results. To change the results, one must first
change the place where operation originates.
Under
that perspective, self-cultivation is not a war against oneself, but a journey
of recognizing the misalignments of the inner Fulcrum and step by step bringing
it back to the state of Neutral Harmony. When the Fulcrum is recalibrated,
change will not occur only in one behavior or one emotion, but will spread
throughout the entire life of the person as a unified system.
Human beings do not suffer because they have emotions, but
suffer because they allow emotions to become the Fulcrum.
•
Money is not bad, but if money becomes the Fulcrum, a
person easily identifies their self-worth with wealth.
•
Fame is not bad, but if fame becomes the Fulcrum, every
decision will be dominated by the desire to win or lose.
•
Knowledge is not bad, but if knowledge becomes the sole
Fulcrum, a person may fall into arrogance.
•
Even suffering is not always bad, but if suffering becomes
the Fulcrum, a person will look at the world only through the lens of
pessimism.
This
expands Axiom 3 from the scope of social systems into the inner life, while
still preserving the core spirit of the Law of the Fulcrum: the problem lies
not only in “what” exists in the system, but in “what” is currently playing the
role of directing that system.
How does one recalibrate the inner Fulcrum?
III. RECALIBRATING THE FULCRUM – THE
PATH OF SELF-PERFECTION
If
a misaligned Fulcrum is the deep cause of imbalances in human life, then
self-cultivation must first of all be the process of recalibrating that very
Fulcrum. However, recalibrating the Fulcrum is not a sudden change, still less
a denial of one’s present self. It is a process of recognition, adjustment, and
maturation that takes place continuously throughout life.
The
first step of that process is self-observation. Only when a person is calm
enough to look back at themselves can they recognize what is truly governing
their thoughts, emotions, and actions. Often, what we think is a goal is only a
means; what we think is a lasting value is only a temporary reaction to
circumstances. Self-observation helps a person distinguish between what is
attracting them and what truly deserves to become the Fulcrum of their life.
The
next step is self-choice. No one can place the inner Fulcrum for another
person. Teachers may point the way, parents may instruct, friends may
encourage, but the final decision still belongs to each individual. This is
also the profound meaning of Axiom 5: An external Fulcrum only has value when
it awakens the inner Fulcrum.
After
choosing the foundational values, what remains is persistent practice. Every
correct thought, every correct action, every time one knows how to stop before
a hasty reaction contributes to consolidating the inner Fulcrum. That process
may take place slowly, but it is precisely the enduring repetition that creates
transformation. Just as a large tree cannot grow in a single day, character is
also formed from countless small adjustments accumulated over time.
Under
the perspective of the Law of the Fulcrum, self-cultivation is not the effort
to become perfect, but the continuous bringing of oneself back to the correct
Fulcrum whenever one is thrown off course by circumstances, emotions, or
desires. It is precisely this capacity to return that is the sign of a person
who is maturing.
Self-cultivation is
not measured by the number of times a person never errs, but by the number of
times a person knows how to return to the correct Fulcrum after each error.
Self-cultivation is not a journey toward a perfect destination, but the
capacity to continually return to the right direction.
According
to the logical flow, after answering:
1.
What is self-cultivation?
2.
Why do human beings become unbalanced?
3.
How does one recalibrate the Fulcrum?
the
next part should answer the larger question:
What consequences does a person who has established a
correct Fulcrum create?
IV. A HUMAN BEING IS THE HIGHEST
FULCRUM OF THEMSELVES
When
the inner Fulcrum is correctly established, the first change is not the
circumstances, but the way the person perceives and responds to circumstances.
Challenges that once made them waver now become opportunities for training;
successes that easily create arrogance now become motivation for continued
contribution. What changes is not the external world, but the control center of
how the person interacts with that world.
A
person with a correct Fulcrum does not mean they no longer make mistakes or
face difficulties. The difference is that they no longer allow temporary
fluctuations to determine the direction of their life. They know what core
values must be preserved, what are only circumstances that need adaptation, and
what must be courageously abandoned in order to continue maturing. It is
precisely the stability of the inner Fulcrum that creates flexibility in action
and firmness in character.
From
there, a person not only becomes the master of their own emotions, thoughts,
and behavior, but also becomes a positive Fulcrum for those around them. A
person who knows how to self-regulate will create a family that knows how to
self-regulate. A family that knows how to self-regulate will contribute to
forming a community that knows how to self-regulate. And many such communities
will create a society capable of self-balancing and self-developing. The
evolution of society, therefore, always begins with the maturation of each
individual.
That
is also the profound meaning of the statement: “A human being is the highest
Fulcrum of themselves.” Not because a person can control every circumstance,
but because a person always has the capacity to choose how they will direct
their life in the face of every circumstance. When they keep the inner Fulcrum,
a person not only changes their own destiny but can also become a Fulcrum that
helps others find their direction again.
Seen
from that angle, self-cultivation is no longer the private work of each
individual. Each perfected person becomes a “healthy cell” of the family, of
the organization, and of society. The more people there are who know how to
build a correct Fulcrum, the more solid the foundation of a civilization of
Neutral Harmony becomes.
Every sustainable revolution of humanity begins with a
silent revolution within each person. And every such revolution begins with the
correct establishment of the inner Fulcrum.
•
Medicine heals life.
•
Education opens the intellect.
•
Governance brings forth collective strength.
•
Self-cultivation perfects the human being.
Four
fields that seem different all meet at one point: awakening the capacity for
self-regulation of the system by correctly establishing the Fulcrum.
From
Lesson 1 to Lesson 20, we have demonstrated:
•
A system has a Fulcrum.
•
A system operates thanks to the Fulcrum.
•
A system self-regulates thanks to the Fulcrum.
•
And finally, human beings also mature thanks to the
Fulcrum.
So
there remains a very large question that readers will naturally ask:
By what is that inner Fulcrum nourished?
Opening Words for the Next Stage
The
Law of the Fulcrum has shown that every sustainable maturation begins with the
correct establishment of the inner Fulcrum. But a deeper question still lies
ahead: what helps that Fulcrum remain firm amid the fluctuations of life?
A
correct Fulcrum does not appear by itself, nor can it be maintained by
willpower alone. It needs to be nourished by correct values, strengthened by
correct knowledge, and tested through each experience of life. It is precisely
that process that makes the Fulcrum not merely a theoretical concept, but a
living strength within each person.
Perhaps
the journey of exploring the Law of the Fulcrum does not end when we understand
it, but only truly begins when each person knows how to turn it into the living
principle of their own life.
•
Part I answers: What is the Fulcrum?
•
Part II answers: How does the Fulcrum operate?
•
Part III answers: What consequences does the Fulcrum
create?
After
those three parts, readers will naturally ask:
How does one live with the Law of the Fulcrum?
The
Law of the Fulcrum is not a doctrine about how to control others, but a
doctrine about how to awaken the capacity for self-regulation of every system.
•
With the body, that is the capacity for self-healing.
•
With the learner, that is the capacity for self-learning.
•
With the organization, that is the capacity for
self-operation.
•
With the human being, that is the capacity for
self-perfection.
“The peak of the
Fulcrum is not to control a system, but to awaken the capacity for the system
to develop itself according to its own law.”
Looking
at the entire 20 lessons, we see that they have unintentionally formed a
“spiral path” of intellectual development:
•
Lessons 1–6: Establishing the foundation (What is the
Fulcrum?).
•
Lessons 7–15: Explaining the mechanism (How does the
Fulcrum operate?).
•
Lessons 16–20: Demonstrating the consequences (What does
the Fulcrum change?).
These
are not three separate parts, but three layers of the same system.
And
Lesson 20 has done something very important:
It brings the entire theory back to the human being
themselves.
If
Part III answers the question:
“What consequences does the Law of the Fulcrum create?”
then
Part IV will answer:
“How is the Law of the Fulcrum applied in practice?”
The
Law of the Fulcrum does not directly cure disease. It helps establish the
conditions for the living system to awaken its inherent capacity for
self-healing.
•
Lesson 16 (Consequences for Medicine) answers: Why does the
body have the capacity for self-healing? (explaining the principle).
•
Lesson 21 (Application in Healing) will answer: How does
one apply the Law of the Fulcrum to support the process of self-healing?
(explaining the method).
After
completing Part IV, the entire book will form a very beautiful four-layer
structure:
•
Part I: Foundation — What is the Fulcrum?
•
Part II: Mechanism — How does the Fulcrum operate?
•
Part III: Consequences — What does the Fulcrum create?
•
Part IV: Application — How do human beings use the Law of
the Fulcrum?
That
is a very natural developmental sequence of a complete theoretical system.
